About the Artist
Influenced
by the works of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Luther Vandross, Desi's music
is derived from his soul with the hopes of truly inspiring his listeners. He
works with seasoned writers and producers who understand his direction, like
Al Johnson (former member of the Unifics) and Paul Minor."- Performance
magazine. "My message is about pure love, about being together forever
- true, spiritual love that is an institution: the kind everybody yearns
for. And that's what comes across in my music. I stress elegance ( in my
performance ) that is enhanced by my choreography. I want my show to be a
class act. I don't want to feed them sex. I want to mesmerize them with my
talent, not my body. I want to be a household name that people of all
nationalities can relate to emotionally."- Desi,
Performance magazine. "Originally from Wilmington, N.C., Desi was
raised in Washington, D.C., and has played D.C. venues including the Ascot,
Takoma Station and The Ritz, as well as Los Angeles venues like The
Troubadour, The Music Machine, Marla's Memory Lane, The Comedy Store, and
Carlos and Charlie's." "He has performed on promotional club tours
in the D.C. area and New York, and has been billed with acts ranging from
classic to rap to hip hop such as Jeffrey Osbourne, Run D.M.C., Angela
Bofield, and Mellow Man Ace. In March 1995, Desi starred in the critically
acclaimed Broadway-bound musical, "Where Eagles Fly" at the
historic Lincoln Theatre in Washington, D.C. The musical's origin and
inspiration came from a song of the same title on Desi's album. In September
of 1996, Desi sang the National Anthem for the Mike Tyson/Bruce Seldon fight
at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas."- Performance magazine.
